About Us

The NZ-DPRK Society was founded in 1972 by Wolfgang Rosenberg and Don Borrie, with the aim of increasing awareness, understanding and contact between the people of New Zealand and the people of the Democratic Peoples ’Republic of Korea (DPRK – often referred to as North Korea). Since its founding the Society has worked closely with colleagues in the DPRK-NZ Friendship Society in Pyongyang, helping to coordinate charity efforts, peace activism, and other forms of cooperation between the two countries.

The NZ-DPRK Society has the following objectives:

  • To promote peace and understanding between the People of the DPRK and NZ
  • To support the peaceful reunification of the DPRK and ROK
  • To facilitate the exchange of people and resources between the DPRK and NZ.
  • To support recognition of DPRK by the international community of nations
  • To encourage DPRK’s full participation in all international organisations.

The executive of the Society is currently made up of:

  • Dr. Tim Beal, Chairman
  • Mr. Peter Wilson, Secretary
  • Rev. Stuart Vogel, Liaison Officer with the Korean Christian Federation
